There was a customer’s Porsche 996 in the workshop today and I spotted it had a rare option – Digital Sound Processing or DSP.
I can’t remember the last time I saw this. Digital Sound Processing was an addition to the Porsche Sound Package (usually known as Bose)and consisted of a control panel in the lower part of the centre console. It was effectively a graphic equaliser and allowed you to modify the sound to suit the sort of music you were playing and your personal taste.
I had a quick play around with it but, like a graphic equaliser, didn’t find it particularly beneficial over and above the already decent Bose system. So, Digital Sound Processing is an interesting and rare option for a Porsche 996 but not one you should actively go looking for.

The cassette holders contrasting the forward thinking of the enhanced digital sound…
‘Echo’ – so 90’s !
@RabyPorsche personal taste really but the cassette storage looks much better if replaced with an open storage box it just slides in
These days it’s all integrated into the head unit.
Lol @ Paul! An utterly useless option! Road & wind noise would negate any improvement in sound even if the average ear was trained to set this up properly…. Which it wouldn’t be in the vast majority of cases!
