Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition

The 911 is 50 years old this year and, to celebrate, Porsche has revealed a very special limited edition 911.

The Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition is a rear-wheel drive 991 with the wider rear bodyshell of the Carrera 4 (a trick Porsche previously did with the Sport Classic). External visual tweets hint at the styling of the original 1963 911, such as chrome strips on the front inlets, engine lid and – this I really like – between the rear lights. There’s also a 3D ’50’ badge on the rear panel. The Fuchs-inspired 20-inch wheels look good but aren’t a style that dates back as far as 1963 (no doubt Porsche didn’t think retro steel wheels would cut it).

Colours are limited to a dark Graphite Grey or a lighter Geyser Grey (both unique to the model) or black.

Inside, the retro theme is more apparent, with chequer pattern fabric seat inserts, in grey or black. The instruments are based on those in the original 911, in that they have green labelling and white needles with silver centre caps. There is ‘911 50’ badging on the headrests, tachometer, door sills and the cupholder panel.

The Porsche  911 50th Anniversary Edition will be limited to just 1963 cars worldwide, available from 23 September 2013.
