This 1988 BMW M635i is the E24 generation and looks amazing in Lachs Silver with the de-chrome option and a full black leather interior.

The car was owned by Bob Harper, the then editor of BMW Car magazine and there are detailed articles dating from 2014 to 2017 describing his running and maintenance of the car. They make fascinating reading, and show that the car has been well maintained. Work of note include new Bilstein springs and dampers, a new heater motor, new speakers and Continental head unit, new starter motor, and much more.

Since then, the BMW has continued to be well kept. It was treated to a full respray in 2021, to a very high standard, at a cost of over £9300. There’s a massive history file, too, with receipts dating back to 1998.

The interior is also in good condition and, as you’d expect, there’s a high specification, with the Highline Equipment package. There is a sunroof, air-conditioning, fully electric seats with driver’s memory and rear window blind. It would have been the height of hi-tech luxury in the 1980s and still feels very special today.

The M635CSi was BMW’s first M series car and, as such, is an important milestone in the marque’s history. It’s 3.5-litre straight six engine develops 282bhp and the car can accelerate from 0-6mph in just 5.8 seconds. Just 524 examples right-hand drive were built, and it’s believed that fewer than 100 still exist. This is rare opportunity to acquire a modern classic BMW that benefits from an unusual and well-documented history.
