1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 project
£26,995.00
This 1986 911 Carrera 3.2 is testament to the durability of Porsches! After being stored and unused for the last four years, it started on the first turn of the key and passed its MoT, so it’s ready to use and enjoy, or it could form the basis of a project.
Finished in Guards Red, this is the classic eighties 911, with its distinctive whale tail and Fuchs forged alloy wheels. It has a contrasting two-tone brown and cream leather interior with an as-new full carpet set supplied by Porsche trimmer, Southbound Motor Services, plus a lovely Porsche 993 RS steering wheel. The leather in is mostly good condition apart from some loose piping on the driver’s bolster.
The Porsche comes with a huge file of invoices showing that a lot of work has been done to it over the years. It drives well, too, with a decent gearbox (the Achille’s heel of these 911s) and plenty of power from the 3.2-litre flat six engine, and the front brakes have been upgraded with Boxster calipers.
The history trails off in recent years, as the last owner (who had the car for 16 years) did some maintenance himself and then put the car into storage. Therefore, it’s due a major service now. The MoT did flag up some advisories, including some wear to the brake discs, slight corrosion on some brake hoses and slight perishing to the rear tyres. That’s as far as we went inspecting the mechanicals, so it’s reasonable to assume other jobs will need attending to.
The bodywork seems essentially sound – the all-important kidney bowls have been replaced and the history file shows that various other work has been done to the body and paintwork over the years. There are some rust spots, most notably on the left-hand scuttle (a common weak point) but we can’t see anything too drastic. As is often the case with red paint, there is some variance in colour from panel to panel
This is a Porsche that you drive off and enjoy immediately, embracing its slightly scruffy demeanour. Or you could restore it to tip-top condition, either in one go or gradually, bit by bit. Alternatively, it would form a good basis for some form of project – perhaps a backdate or a track car.
Because this Porsche is not up to our usual retail standards, we are selling it strictly in as-is condition, with no form of warranty. We’d be very happy for you to come and have a look and we can chat through the car with you, and advise on the various options.
