What a lovely car this rare 1973 BMW 2002 Baur Top Cabriolet is! Finished in eye-catching ice-green metallic with 15inch two-piece alloy wheels, the car has been updated with Turbo-style wheel arches and front spoiler. The removable Targa top roof and the folding rear section have been renewed and in excellent condition.

The interior is black with the correct houndstooth seat fabric which, again, are in really good condition. A modern JVC double-din head unit with sat-nav is a useful nod to the 21st century but, that apart, we believe the interior is as-original.

The BMW comes with a large folder of receipts and other records going back to 2005, showing that it’s had a lot of attention lavished on it since then. Work of note includes a respray (the green is not the original shade but there is little or no evidence of the previous yellow) and new roof in 2006, plus a five-speed gearbox was fitted. The mileage reads 28,300 which we can’t determine if it’s genuine or not, but the previous owner has no reason to believe it’s not.

The bodywork does have some cosmetic flaws here and there, but is generally very smart. The last owner says that some non-structural welding will be required to the inner rear arches at some point, but the car’s passed its MoT without problem for the last few years. We shall sell it with 12 months’ MoT.

This is an affordable classic car which you could enjoy as it is, or invest time into taking it to the next level in terms of appearance and condition.
