Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (997)

2011

P11_0296_a4

The 997 GT3 RS 4.0 was based on the standard RS with the big change being under the rear lid. The engine borrowed heavily from the GT3 RSR racecar unit; indeed, the crankshaft was lifted straight from it. The bore of the GT3 engine was at its limit so the capacity increase from 3800cc to 3996cc was achieved by dint of upping the stroke from 76.4mm to 80.4mm. Power was up from 450bhp to 500bhp, with torque peaking at a 460Nm.

Bodywork and interior of the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 were similar to that of the previous RS, however lateral front air deflection vanes – flics – were added to increase front-end downforce and allow the rear wing to be more steeply raked, giving a total increase in downforce of 190kg at top speed.

Production of the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 was limited to 600 cars, finished in white.
