The mid-range 356C was the 1600 SC. The main difference from the entry-level car being a more powerful, higher compression version of the 1.6-litre overhead valve engine that produced 95bhp at a heady 5800rpm. To give a sportier ride, Koni dampers were fitted in place of the Boge items of the less powerful car.
