What’s the fastest accelerating Porsche? The question was asked on Twitter and my first thought was ‘997 GT2 RS’ which hits 62mph (100kmh) in just 3.5 seconds. However, the 997 Turbo S just beats it with a time of 3.3 seconds. That said, the GT2 RS does take the gong for top speed, with an outrageous figure of 205mph.
And because the Turbo S has a PDK automatic transmission and Launch Control, anyone can jump in and achieve something close to that figure. I drove one to the Isle of Man a couple of years ago and had a memorable time on the island’s derestricted roads. With 530bhp going through all four wheels, the Turbo S is not only an extremely powerful car, it’s also a very capable and safe one. And with a fully featured leather-clad interior it’s also a luxurious yet practical touring car. What more could you want?
There’s no doubt that the mighty 997 Turbo is one of Porsche’s greatest 911s. If it’s out of your price range, though, why not consider a standard 997 Turbo or even a 996 Turbo S? Either will give you almost the same performance for less money, and we usually have one or two in stock.
