Three very different four-wheel-drive Porsches

Looking through our stock, it occurred to me that Porsche has produced some very diverse cars over the years, and we have three examples that illustrate this very well. Click the links in the text below to see more information on each car.

First up is a 1996 993 Carrera 4S. A lovely looking 911 that boasts wide Turbo bodywork and, as the name suggests, four-wheel-drive. Traditionally, sports cars have been rear drive but having power going to all four wheels gives improved traction during hard acceleration and, of course, is useful in bad conditions. Crucially, though, most of the power goes through the rear wheels during normal driving, so you get that traditional feeling most of the time, with the front wheels kicking in only when required. Oh, and by the way, we also have a 996 Carrera 4S.

Next is a 2009 Cayenne Diesel, a car that looks like it has four-wheel-drive and it has. Now, I’m a big fan of the Cayenne. It’s a car that does pretty much everything. It’s a luxury tourer, practical load carrier and tow car, yet also offers sports car performance and handling., while being a surprisingly capable off-roader. If you only have room for one car in your life, then a Cayenne ticks all the boxes.

Finally, we have a 2010 Panamera 4S, a car that takes the luxury sports saloon niche to new levels of comfort and performance. It’s a big beast, yet get in and drive it and it shrinks around you, as you hurl it around like a sports car. On the other hand, it’s also a continent-eating grand-tourer with every luxury on hand. And being four-wheel-drive, it will cope with all road conditions, so ideal for, say, an Alpine ski trip.
