Here’s something very special! This Ram Cobra is a stunning car in every way and in a class above most Cobras you see.

It was professionally built by a classic car restoration company in 1998. However, it is correctly registered as a 1976 Ram SC Cobra with a 5-litre Ford V8 on the V5 logbook, so it’s tax and MoT exempt.

The red and white paintwork is in excellent condition and is perfectly complemented by Halibrand replica wheels made by Image and shod with as-new tyres. There are correct side pipes and chrome trim including the roll-bar. Correct quick-lift jack hooks are fitted front and rear, although there are also stainless steel front and rear bumpers if preferred.

The interior is just as convincing, with a combination of leather seats and aluminium, firewall, bulkhead and floors. There are period-correct Smith’s instruments with a reverse winding speedometer, and Willans harnesses. A custom-made tonneau covers the cockpit.

However, a Cobra is all about performance and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. It has a period-correct Ford V8 5000cc (302ci) Cleveland wide-block engine. This was fully rebuilt less then 3,000 miles ago from a 30,000-mile 1971 Ford Falcon, documented with all receipts, and is topped with four-barrel Holly carburettor, which has recently been rebuilt and set up. The four-speed gearbox is from the same Falcon.

The Ram chassis was designed by Reynard, making this arguably the best-handling Cobra replica with with pedigree tracing back to the 1970s. There’s coil-over suspension all round, recently set up with new springs and adjustable dampers. Plus, a salisbury 4HU limited-slip differential is fitted with the rarer 2.88 crown-wheel and pinion, gives the car a comfortable 80mph cruising speed at 2000rpm in fourth gear, while still being plenty lively enough to smoke the tyres. Jaguar XJS brakes complete the chassis set up.

Since being built, the car was only taken and displayed at a village car show once a year and hence covered next to no mileage until 2018, when the last owner bought it then put around 3000 miles on the clock. He is the director of a classic car restoration business and has continued to hone the Cobra to ensure it’s in tip-top condition.

This unique Cobra comes with a huge folder of paperwork and photographs, documenting the car’s build and upkeep right back to the original receipts from Ram. Included in the sale is the cherished plate GOI 2534.
