Ford Racing Puma

£12,995.00

This 1999 Ford Racing Puma is a rare car, indeed, as just 500 were built for the UK market. The car is distinguished by its wider wheel arches, which were created by Tickford Vehicle Manufacturing which hand-built each car, and unique Ford Racing Blue metallic paintwork. Wheels are 17inch multispoke alloys.

The Racing Puma is tuned for fun, with uprated suspension and massive Alcan four-piston brake calipers and larger discs. The revvy 1.7-litre naturally aspirated engine boasts a unique inlet manifold, new camshafts, a remap and rorty sports exhaust to raise the power to 155bhp. The interior is pure racing, with Sparco seats trimmed in blue Alcantara, unique door panels and an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel.

This excellent example has a particularly interesting history as it was a Ford press car, used for photographs, appearances at motorshows and given to the media for magazine articles and television reviews. Ford produced 23 press cars in total, and this was number 009, also known as FMC017. The press cars differed very slightly to the regular Ford Racing Puma in that their inlet manifolds were engraved with the letters FMC (Ford Motor Company) and the car’s number. Also, the engine bays and front slam panels were painted in body colour rather than satin black, and they had spare wheel mounts under the boot floor.

Features include working air-conditioning, electric door mirrors, electric windows, radio/CD player and remote central locking.

The car has covered 60,700 miles and has a well-documented history. A new clutch was installed in 2015 and the following year the sills were repaired and the underbody rust-proofed with photographed evidence. Plus there’s a large folder of receipts showing it’s had plenty of regular maintenance done in recent years. It comes with the original handbooks and a lovely Ford Racing Puma sales brochure.
