Ford Cortina L Big Six MkIII

£17,500.00

Dating from 1973, this MkIII Ford Cortina is a rare beast on UK soils. Badged Big Six, it’s a South African market car with a 2.5-litre V6 Essex engine. It’s certainly noticeably more potent than the 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 litre cars that were sold in in the UK!

It’s also rare in that it’s in original condition and has not been restored, and has covered just 62,500 miles. It is finished in a delightful pale blue, which we believe was unique to South Africa, complemented by a pale cream vinyl roof. The paintwork is in remarkably good condition for a 49 year car with a few marks, as you’d expect. There is no evidence of serious rust on the bodywork or underneath.

The interior boasts tan vinyl seats which, again, are in good overall condition apart from some splits on the driver’s seat.

This is a car that could be bought and enjoyed as is, with its patina of age. Or it would be a great rust-free basis for a restoration to concours standard. Alternatively, it would be a good starting point for a custom build. It’s most enjoyable to drive, with plenty of power and torque, a sweet gearbox and no knocks or rattles. The car will be sold with UK plates and an MoT.
