This Porsche 924S isn’t perfect but it does have a lot going for it. We are selling it in as-is condition as a cheap classic which you could get in and use, or take as the basis of a project, to bring it back to its former glory.

The Porsche has an MoT until September 2019, so it immediately road-legal and drives surprisingly well. All the electrics (mirrors, windows, sunroof and so on) work and the mileage is relatively low at 79,100 (the odometer reads 48,100 but the history file shows that a new speedometer was fitted at 31,000, and the records back this up).

The car comes with MoTs back to 1995 and there are some invoices and other paperwork in the history folder. The cambelt was replaced in 2015. The Porsche has had four owners, the last one since 1998.

At some point, the Porsche has been treated to a 924 Turbo bonnet with its distinctive NASCA duct, which itself is worth a few bob. The original ‘telephone dial’ wheels are in good condition.

Inside, the 924S is tidy with an almost crack-free dashboard (which is rare with these cars). The original black pinstripe seats are in good condition although, sadly, the driver’s seat base has been retrimmed in plain black fabric. In the boot, there’s even the original roller blind luggage cover.

The bad news is that the black paintwork is a bit tired, with some blistering in places. It could be tidied up but, ideally, you’d want to give the car a full respray to make it look perfect. Also, there’s a bit of vibration at idle which we suspect is a failed engine mount; you could live with it, or fit a new mount. Finally, the Porsche could probably do with a service as there’s no record of it having one since 2015, although it has not been driven much since then.

The 924S has the same 2.5-litre engine as the 944 of the time and, as such, is a much better car than the original 2.0-litre 924.
