It’s been with me longer than I expected, for various reasons, but now the Porsche 964 Turbo will soon be with its new owner. I took it for a 160-mile round trip this morning and that was enough to convince me that I want to own a 964 Turbo one day. And that’s coming from someone who didn’t think he liked Turbos!
I love everything about the car. Its wide-bodied looks, the pop and burble from the exhaust on overrun, the ridiculous acceleration once the turbo finally kicks in, the sumptuous leather interior, the surprisingly refined ride quality – it’s just a fabulous car. I’m sure I’ll look back in years to come and wish I’d bought it for myself, as these cars will only go up in value.
Actually, there is something I don’t like about the 964 Turbo – that 160-miles cost £50 in petrol. Or maybe that’s just down to my driving…
So what’s going to happen to the Porsche? Well, it’s going form the basis of a RSR-style back-date project, which should be interesting. OK, some people are going to say that a classic 911 should be kept ‘original’ but I love modified Porsches, if they’re done well – and I know this one will be.

First Turbo 2 I ever drove was in Rubystone. Don’t even go there when it comes to trying to sell a colour…
Love the Turbo 2, but mildly concerned that this one is going to me changed into a backdated car. Still, plenty more of them around I guess.
