I’ve had three seperate conversations today about, to give it its full name, the Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Turbo-Look, or 964 Turbo-Look Cabriolet to its friends. This is a rare car, with just 24 right-hand drive examples coming to the UK in 1992 and 1993, and not many left-hookers either.
It’s always hard to value these cars – they’re rare but not as sought after or desirable as some other rare Porsches, such as the 964RS. Someone has to really want a 964 Cabriolet to pay a premium for one of these wide-bodied examples.
There is a very cheap one up for sale in the UK but that has issues, generally you’d expect to pay around £25,000 on the rare occasion one comes up for sale. So when I had a call from someone asking me if £28,000 was a good price, my first reaction was that it was too expensive. And then I saw the advert for the Porsche. It does look stunning, with a beautifully retrimmed interior that looks in keeping. OK, the wheels are wrong but so what? They still look good.
So is £28,000 too much? I don’t think so. It’s a rare and great looking Porsche that can only continue to appreciate in value.
