OK, to make up for an exciting post about Porsche 911 door pockets, here’s a gratuitous photo of a trio of Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Turbo Looks. Yes, that really is the official name for these wide-bodied open-topped 964s.
Produced towards the end of the 964’s life, just 24 right-hand-drive examples came to the UK in 1992 and 1993; and not too many more left-hand-drive cars were built, either. Actually, Porsche had planned to import 50 cars in 1992 alone, but the early 1990s was not the best time, economically, to be producing expensive cars; and the Cabriolet Turbo Look (to give it a more manageable title) was expensive. In fact, it cost an eye-watering £70,397.39 in 1992, which was a full £13,845.52 more than the standard, narrow-bodied Carrera 2 Cabriolet.
As well as the wide body, the Porsche also boasted the uprated brakes, suspension and wider 17-inch wheels from the 964 Turbo.
Today, it’s a rare Porsche 911 but, being a Cabriolet, perhaps not as desirable as wide-bodied coupes.
Oh, and the location is Bosham Harbour, just down the road from my home in West Sussex, and where I photograph Porsches that I’m selling. A great place to visit!
