The UK has been basking in one of the best summers for years and it’s ideal weather for open-top Porsches.
With Porsches, you have a choice of wind-in-the-hair cars:
911 Cabriolet
For the full open-top experience, it has to be a Cabriolet with a folding roof, such as this 997 Carrera S. With a fully electric roof, that opens and closes in seconds, this is pure luxury.
911 Targa, early
The 911 Targa is a clever concept. Up until 1993, the Targa had a lift-out roof panel which folded up and stored in the boot. With a distinctive roofline and rear window, these early Targas are becoming very popular, as they give all the benefits of open-top motoring without the wind buffeting. This 964 Targa is a great example.
911 Targa, late
In the mid 1990s Porsche completely reinvented the Targa concept for the 993, like this one. In place of the lift-out panel came a large glass roof that, at the touch of a button, slid back under the rear window. When closed, the glass roof made the cockpit feel light and airy, while a sunblind could be drawn into place to give the feel of a coupe. It was a brilliant system that was carried over with the 996 and 997, which also gained a lifting rear window.
Boxster
The mid-engined Boxster was designed from the outset as an open-top car, and performs that role perfectly. A combination of superb handling, brisk performance and a well-designed, electrically operated roof makes the Porsche Boxster the benchmark roadster. Here’s one we have in stock.
