The 997 Carrera GTS revived a famous badge on a Porsche that, unlike many specials, was great value for money.

Like the Sport Classic, the 997 GTS combined the wider rear end of the Carrera 4 with a rear-wheel drive powertrain, plus the Powerkit which increased the 3.8-litre engine’s power to 408bhp.

In addition, there were black 19-inch RS Spyder wheels, SportDesign front apron, new sideskirts, unique badging and black-finished lower body sections.

Inside, the 997 Carrera GTS boosted Sports seats finished in Alcantara, while the steering wheel, handbrake and gearlever are also trimmed in this material.

A six-speed manual gearbox was standard, although buyers could opt for PDK.

Variations
There was also a choice of coupe or Cabriolet body styles.

The GTS badge appeared on the great 245bhp 924 Carrera GTS of 1981; a stunning machine based on the GTR Le Mans racecar.

The badge was last used on the ultimate 928; the 350bhp, wide-arched super-coupe made from 1992 to 1996.
