Butzi Porsche – his influence on my life

Sad news just in – Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – known as Butzi – has died. I’m fielding phone calls from newspapers, asking for my thoughts, and one question caught my attention – “How did he influence your life?”

Well, first and foremost, he was responsible for the Porsche 911. I remember being impressed by the 911 when I was growing up in the 1970s – a black Turbo, in particular, stuck in my young mind. As I grew up, my fascination with the Porsche 911 grew and it was the car I always wanted to own.

As time went on, I found myself writing features for 911 & Porsche World and then became Associate Editor of that magazine.

However, despite enjoying all models of Porsche, the car that remained foremost in my mind was the 911. Others felt the same – owners of 944s would invariably say “But I’ll own a 911 one day.” That led me to form my own magazine – Total 911 which was dedicated solely to the icon that was the Porsche 911.

Today, I make my living selling Porsches – and 95 percent of my stock is, you guessed it, 911s.

So, it’s fair to say that Butzi Porsche has had a massive influence on my life – thank you and rest in peace.
