New Porsche Centre opens in Portsmouth

At long last, there is now a Porsche Centre in the central south coast area of England, in Portsmouth near me. Up until now, people in the Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester areas (highly populated and wealthy cities) have had to travel to Bournemouth or Mid Sussex for an official Porsche experience. A crazy situation. I’ve yet to visit Porsche Portsmouth, but the two-acre site sounds impressive, with roof-top parking! You can find it at Lakeside Business Park, Western Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO6 3PQ. For customer enquiries, please contact the Centre on 02392 212350 or www.porsche.co.uk/portsmouth Why not visit the new centre […]

Porsche open day in West Sussex

We are teaming up with Porsche service specialist AW Motor Sport and opening our doors to Porsche owners on Sunday 12th August. The informal open day will be a chance to meet staff from both companies and also to chat with other Porsche owners at this West Sussex facility. Refreshments will be provided, plus the chance to put your Porsche through a free health check, and get advice on servicing and repairs. There will also be a selection of Porsches for sale. AW Motor Sport is based near the historic city of Chichester with its stunning harbour, plus West Wittering […]

Do you want to sell your Porsche?

Recent sales success means that we are actively looking for new stock. And, being a broker that means that, rather than buy your Porsche at a low price, we sell your car on your behalf, thus returning you a better price than if you sold it to a dealer. And you don’t have the bother of having to deal with potential buyers yourself! So, if you’re based in the UK and want to sell your Porsche or other performance car do please get in touch. Why sell your Porsche through Philip Raby? • We have a great reputation for honest […]

Ian Raby – racing driver

I had an email recently asking if I was related to Ian Raby, a racing driver from Brighton who was killed in the 1960s. Sadly, I’m not related to him but I did write about him once as part of a book on Grand Prix drivers. Here is what I found out about the man: Ian Raby was born in Woolwich and became a car dealer in Brighton. He began racing in 500cc Formula 3 in the 1950s, initially with a self-built car he called ‘Puddle Jumper’ (because of its low ground-clearance), and later in Coopers. He then switched to […]

You Can Drive a Porsche ebook review

I was delighted to see that photographer, writer and Porsche 996 Turbo driver Neill Watson has taken the time to review my ebook, You Can Drive a Porsche, and illustrated his review with a very cool photo of a Porsche (above). Neill agrees with the sentiments of the book that say that you can drive a much nicer car if you take depreciation out of the equation. And that means being a Clever Car Buyer. You can find out more about the book by clicking here. Click here to read Neill’s full review and also other blog posts from him. […]

I also write about Porsches!

Although I’m enjoying my new life selling Porsches, I do also love writing about cars, Porsches in particular. Unfortunately, for the last six months I’ve had little opportunity to do that, because of a restrictive clause in my contract with Imagine Publishing, the company I worked for. Now, thankfully, that is coming to an end and I’ll soon be free to write for anyone I want to. I’ve written for and edited magazines and books for many years and like to think I do a decent job of it. Although Porsche is my specialist subject, I can turn my hand […]

Building a Porsche brand

I had a phone call from a regular reader of my Porsche blog yesterday. Over the course of our conversation he referred to the “Philip Raby brand”. Now, I’m a modest sort of chap and don’t think of myself in such terms but he was right. I have built up a name for myself in Porsche circles and I should do more with it. How did I come to this situation? Well, it started off many years ago when I was editor of a photo magazine and, as aPorsche enthusiast, religiously read 911 & Porsche World (the only UK Porsche […]

My Porsche cousin Jake

Raby is an unusual surname which you don’t come across much, yet it appears more than you’d expect in the relatively small world of Porsche. There’s me, for starters, selling Porsches in southern England, and writing about them too. Then there’s Raby Castle, up in northern England, where there’s a very good Porsche show every year. And over in America there is Jake Raby. We not aware that we’re related but like to think we are! Jake runs Flat6 Innovations and Raby Engine Developments (RED to its friends). He’s a clever Porsche engineer and has built up an enviable reputation […]

You can Drive a Porsche!

I’ve just updated my eBook which gives an alternative view to car ownership and shows that anyone can afford to drive a Porsche. It’s simply a case of changing the way you think about buying and owning a car. For just £3.99, this eBook will change the way you think about car ownership and includes the following information: • The difference between foolish and clever car buyers. • A Porsche can be less expensive to own than a modern saloon car. • Porsches are remarkably environmentally friendly. • A gentle introduction to the many models of Porsche • Which Porsches […]
