Do try to be original!

Here’s a car I spotted for sale that bothers me. It’s actually a 1987 3.2 Carrera, but you’d never guess it. It’s been ‘updated’ with 964 bumpers and rear spoiler plus an aftermarket front spoiler. Inside, it looks as if someone got a Halfords gift voucher for Christmas and spent it all on the poor old 911. OK, someone must like it to have done that (or maybe they don’t, which is why they’re selling the car now) but I’d much rather see an original 3.2 Carrera. And I’m not the only one. Increasingly, buyers of older 911s are looking […]

Financial crash?

From time to time, a damaged 911 appears for sale and, at first sight, they can look very tempting. Take a look at this one, for instance. £13,500 for a very low-mileage 2003 996 sounds a great deal, doesn’t it? Now, it’s impossible to assess fully the damage but I can see it needs a couple of front wings, bonnet, front bumper, at least one front light, front panel, while the inner wings and body structure are probably distorted, too. Looking at the puddle of coolant under the car, I’d bet it’ll need a new radiator and probably air-conditioning bits, […]

Low, low mileage 996 Carrera 4S

Low-mileage 911s keep coming out of the woodwork. We featured a 75-mile 964 in Total 911 recently. However, it’s rare to find a newer 911 that’s not been driven, so this 996 Carrera 4S is a real treat. The wide-bodied Carrera 4S is one of the best-looking (to my eyes) 996s and remains sought after with prices at a premium over those of standard 996 Carreras. However, they’ve not escaped the depreciate which all 996s have suffered from and, today, you can collect a reasonable example for as little as £25,000. So would you pay £39,000 for one that’s covered […]
