Porsche Cayman R (2011)

2011

The Cayman R introduced the lightweight concept to the already popular Cayman range.

Weight was cut by 55kg to 1295kg compared to the standard Cayman S, thanks to the use of lightweight aluminium door skins, carbonfibre bucket seats and RS-style door panels. In addition, the air-conditioning and stereo were deleted, and the fuel tank slightly reduced in size to 54-litres. The wheels were also lightweight 19-inch litres as used on the Boxster Spyder.

In classic Porsche style, power was tweaked just slightly over that of the Cayman S 3.4-litre engine, to give an extra 10bhp. Combined with the weight reduction, this gave a power-to-weight ratio of 255bhp per tonne (or 250bhp with the PDK).

This equated to a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds (4.7 with PDK and Sport Chrono) and a top speed of 175mph (174mph with PDK).

The Cayman R featured a fixed rear spoiler, black headlamp surrounds and mirror housings, plus retro-style ‘Porsche’ side decals.
