We know that Porsches are great cars but it’s good to get confirmation. In the recent What Car? awards, Porsche did particularly well.
The new 718 Cayman was named Best Sports Car, with the judges saying: “…with balletic handling and wonderfully accurate steering, it is the perfect recipe for having fun on the road. Put simply, the Cayman will make you want to get up early for a blast on a country road, plus it won’t get fractious on long motorway drives. The Porsche is cracking value for money.”
In addition, the new Porsche 911 Carrera PDK scooped first place in the £50,000 to £100,000 category. “The 911 handles superbly and is able to deliver a serious adrenaline rush,” enthused the judges, also saying that “…one of the 911’s great strengths is the fact that it can thrill you one minute and pamper you the next. It’s one of the most well-rounded sports cars on the planet.”
Meanwhile, in the SUV class, the Porsche Macan S Diesel came top in the up to £50,000 category. The judges said that the Macan “Offers a brilliant blend of luxury, performance and practicality” and its “precise steering and brakes make it far more driver-focussed than its rivals. Ultimately, if you want a sporty, compact SUV that has a suitably premium badge, the Macan is by far the best choice…”
All great news. But what is better news is that you don’t need to buy a brand-new model to enjoy the excitement of owning a great Porsche. Porsches have long done well in awards and a used example can be just as rewarding – and far more affordable.
