A Porsche 911 is a great touring car

People often grumble that the latest Porsche 911s have become more grand-tourers than sports cars – a sentiment I can sympathise with but one which suggests that older 911s aren’t good for long distances. GT Porsche July 2014

The new issue of GT Porsche magazine is on sale now and what a cracking read it is. And I’m not just saying that because it has two of my features on the cover – a Boxster buyers’ guide and a 997 Speedster and 991 Turbo back to back. It really is packed full of great articles. First drives of the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS got my mouth watering. Porsche 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition

Porsche has just announced its Martini Racing Edition, a 991 Carrera S finished in the Martini livery made famous in the 1970s. Back then, you could order a 911SC or 911 Turbo with Martini livery so this is a welcome return to those days. As well as the distinctive livery, offered on black or white bodywork, the Martini Racing Edition also boasts an Aerokit with a fixed rear spoiler, stainless steel sill covers with the words “911 Carrera S – Martini Racing Edition” illuminated in red.
