Top 100 car journalists

I’m number 37 in the “100 car journalists to watch” list.  Which is very nice but I never hold too much by such lists, especially as this one is based on the number of Twitter followers. Justin Beiber has a lot of followers but does that make him an authority on music? Still, it’s good to appear on the list, which you can see in full here.

Porsche Boxster Spyder road test in California

My friend Kevin Yeung has been in California for a few days and was lucky enough to grab an early morning drive in a Porsche Boxster Spyder. Here’s his write-up of the drive. 5:27AM – The Pacific Palisades: I’m woken by the ping of a text message from Wifie in HK. I return a call to her to check whats going on at home. I’m wide awake now but it’s still dark – Alex and his family are fast asleep. With 5 hours to kill before my flight to New York, I grabbed a bottle of water and the keys […]

Porsche Macan – the facts

The Porsche Macan has arrived. OK, there are no surprises – inside and out it looks like a downsized Cayenne which, of course, it is. Is that a bad thing? Not really, it’s what Land Rover does with the Range Rover and Freelander – buyers of the smaller (read cheaper) model like the idea of having something that looks like its prestigious big brother. But don’t let that put you off, I am sure that the Macan will be a superb car in its own right, in terms of performance, handling and practicality. Without even seeing one, I’m thinking I’d […]

Launch of the Porsche Macan

The long-rumoured Porsche Macan SUV will be unveiled to the world at the Los Angeles Motor Show at 19.55 local time on 19th November 2013. The event will be broadcast live around the world at the Porsche Macan microsite. The Porsche Macan is the Cayenne’s little brother and, as such, won’t go down well with Porsche purists. For the rest of us, though, it’s an exciting new model which will broaden Porsche’s market appeal. Hey, it might even intensify your life, as the marketing slogan suggests.

Lightweight Porsche 964 Turbo

A conversation on Twitter reminded me of a feature I wrote some ten years ago on an amazing Porsche 964 Turbo. Here’s the text, I just need to find some photos…   Life’s good. The sun’s shining, I’m strapped into a red 911, my godson’s sitting by my side, there’s a great bunch of guys standing watching. And I’ve an empty airfield to play on. I turn the key and the engine roars into life. The short-shift gear lever slips neatly into first, I rev the engine and drop the clutch. We’re off. First and second gears disappear in the […]

Porsche Classic Tyre Pressure Gauge

I’ve just received an email from my local Porsche Centre in Portsmouth, promoting the Porsche Classic Tyre Pressure Gauge. This looks really cool. It’s based on that used in the 1960s and 1970s and comes complete with a leather case. Often, Porsche merchandise is prohibitively expensive but the Porsche Classic Tyre Pressure Gauge is priced at £38.00 which I think it very reasonable. It not only looks great but is also genuinely useful, as correct tyre pressures make a difference to a Porsche’s handling and efficiency. Although you can order from any Porsche Centre, if you’re in UK it would be […]

Porsche 993 Carrera Service Manual

This weighty tome landed on my desk with a thump the other day. It’s the new Bentley Porsche 993 Carrera Service Manual and I’m very impressed by it. I’ve had other 993 Carrera service manuals before and they’ve been adequate but lacking in some areas. This one, though, seems to be very comprehensive. There are masses of illustrations, both full colour photographs and mono line drawings – all very clear and useful. It’s obvious that a huge amount of work and research has gone into the production of this book. Every aspect of service and repair is covered, from removing […]
