A Carrara White Porsche 911 Carrera

A Carrara White Porsche 911 Carrera

Porsche does some confusing things sometimes. Once upon a time, if you choose a white Porsche the colour (yes, I know white isn’t strictly a colour) would be called Glacier White, which is easy to understand.

Now, though, the white paint is called Carrara White, which looks like a misspelling of that famous Porsche badge Carrera. However, it’s actually named after a type of white Italian marble which comes from the town of Carrara.

The Carrera name, on the other hand, comes from the Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico, which Porsche had some success in back in the 1950s. Carrera is the Spanish word for race.

I wonder how many times ‘Carrara’ has been inadvertently corrected to ‘Carrera’. Maybe Porsche should think of a new name. Let’s see, what else is white? How about a glacier?
