Steve Jobs and Porsches

Steve Jobs and Porsches

It’s a year today that Steve Jobs died and Apple has give over its website to a touching tribute.

In later years, Jobs drove Mercedes-Benzs, changing them every few months to make use of a local bylaw that allowed him to drive around without licence plates. However, previously he also owned a few Porsches, including a 944, 928 and 911. Recently, former NeXT employee and fellow Porsche owner recalled a story about Jobs and Porsches.

One day Jobs rushed over to Adams in the officeand told him they had to move the cars:

“I said, ‘Why?,’ and he said, ‘Randy, we have to hide the Porsches. Ross Perot is coming by and thinking of investing in the company, and we don’t want him to think we have a lot of money.’” They moved the cars around to the back of NeXT’s Californian offices and Perot invested $20 million in the company in 1987 and took a seat on the board.
