Porsche sales – if a deal sounds too good to be true it probably is

I’ve just had yet another call from someone selling a Porsche, and he’d been approached by a certain dealer saying that they had a buyer for the car and could offer him close to the asking price. Fortunately, this person Googled the name of the dealer in question and found out that others had been caught out by this scam. And a scam it is – once the dealer has the car in their hands, they then say that the buyer they had lined up has dropped out but they will soon find another. After a few weeks, they turn round to the car’s owner and say they’ll have to drop the price considerably to secure a sale.

It’s shocking behaviour and the dealer in question is still doing it, despite building up a bad reputation for it.

So, in summary, if you’re advertising a Porsche for sale and you get a call offering you near the asking price from a dealer saying he has a buyer for the car, then tread carefully…

I first wrote about this here.
