Porsche 964 Targa is very yellow

I’ve been having a real 964 fest recently, with the Cabriolet I’m selling, a Turbo I inspected for a client, a coupe on the way soon and, today, this eyecatching yellow Targa. The car’s been bought by a client overseas and I collected it today and delivered it to the shipping agent. Now, some people won’t like the colour one bit but I do. It’s a colour-to-sample which is darker and deeper than the more usual Speed Yellow. Indeed, a 996 GT3 in that shade hooked up behind me on the M25 and it looked positively insipid next to the […]

Porsche 964 – left- to right-hand drive conversion uncovered

There’s an interesting silver Porsche 964 Cabriolet being sold in the Midlands at the moment. It sounds all very good but I’ve just been told that it is, in fact, a car that originated in mainland Europe. Not a problem in itself, but it also transpires that the Porsche has been converted from left-hand drive to right-hand drive. Now, this is something that happened when these cars were newer and had a high value. It didn’t happen often, though, as it was an expensive conversion – I remember seeing a near-new 993 Turbo being converted by a UK specialist and […]

Porsche 996 prices – what’s happening?

I’ve had a couple of calls this morning from people wanting to buy Porsche 996s, and they’ve spotted what I’ve seen – prices seem stronger than they were a month or two ago. Then, for a budget of £16,000 you could get yourself a half-decent facelift model, with the benefits of a 3.6-litre engine, restyled headlamps and a nicer interior, with a better feel to the buttons and a proper glovebox. Try to find such a car now, and you’ll struggle. Even the original 3.4-litre cars seems to be fetching stronger money, with decent examples touching the aforementioned £16,000 figure. […]

Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Some say that Cabriolets aren’t ‘real’ 911s and a coupe is the only model to have. While I have to agree that 911 coupes have the best lines and the most rigid bodyshells, I’ve always enjoyed driving open-top 911s. I guess it dates back to when I was a teenager and spent my time doing up Triumph Spitfires. This all came back to me the other day, when I was driving a 964 Cabriolet that I’m selling. The top dropped at the touch of a button (unlike on my old Spitfires), I turned the heat up full and I couldn’t […]

Porsche 997 Carrera GTS – a good buy?

I’ve just driven the new Porsche 997 Carrera GTS and am mightily impressed with it. Cynics have asked what the point of the car is. Drive it and you will know the answer. It’s basically a Carrera S with the wider rear bodywork of the 4S combined with the usually optional Powerkit and, crucially, a revised suspension set-up. No, it’s not jut been hardened but but rather reassessed to give a positive but compliant ride and the best steering I’ve experienced on a 911. In effect, it’s a Sport Classic for about half the price. Porsche is expecting it to […]

Porsche997 Black Edition: is it a good buy?

Porsche has revealed a limited edition 997 Carrera called the Black Edition and, as you’d expect, it’s black inside and out. 1911 examples will be built. A similar Black Edition Boxster will be limited to 987 examples. So far, then, not much to get excited about. However, the Black Edition comes with a good specification within the base price of £67,270 (£74,958 for the Cabriolet). Standard items include Bose Surround Sound System, sat-nav module, Universal Audio Interface (iPod adaptor, basically), Park Assist, cruise control, automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors, and rain sensor, plus the aforementioned wheels. To order a […]

Porsche 993 Carrera Tiptronic for sale

Here’s an exciting car. It’s a 1995 993 Carrera Tiptronic. What’s exciting about that, I hear you say. Well, the Porsche 993 is one of the most sought-after and easy to live with 911s and, as is often said, the last and best of the air-cooled cars. Any 993 is a good investment. This particular example has had a lot of money lavished on it in the last year and so is in tip-top condition. Yes, you could buy a cheaper 993 but you may end up having to spend money getting up together. This car has already had the […]
